Is Maui deadbeat? I know they charge 25$ to pick up seperated rubbish at your house. That's in Wailuku and Kahului, if less than 10' from the curb and in a close neighborhood, otherwise add 10$ (week)! It still leaves you with your "stink garbage" and non recyclables!
We did a big fencing project years ago, using Maui recycled plastic fencing! They couldn't maintain the supply and dissapeared!
I also know some composting projects brought lawsuits as to health standards on Maui! What they call total trash composting is a farce, and is dangerous.
Now the likes of food scraps, paper plates cups and wooden utensils used in school cafeterias, and possibly resteraunts which would commit to feeding the pile with their utensils and scraps (meat and all). Namely crud that you know! Anything in general garbage is suspect! Mixed with greenwaste and fully composted, this would be excellent material!
But I can see Hilo pickup after a good rain! Which is the biggest problem I can see for Hilo!
That and the insane raises in fuel costs, which we know will only get worse! My biggest fear is the kind of charges they can put on the Transfer stations! Like 25-50$ per load!
But we will probably end up with 112M$ in office space so the CC can plan somthing!
Since the councils no vote, I haven't heard a word about the solution! LEt alone pumping and testing the existing landfill and lining and establishment of a pumping station forthe new one!
The sorting station has been somehow canceled, and the green waste loader is down!
