Hopefully the doctor Cat told you of is accepting patients. The practice that is open to new patients on the island is the exception, and has been for some time.
Because people who make recommendations may have a long relationship with their doctor, they may not realize the practice is only serving existing patients. Your first step is to find someone who's taking new patients, in other words, find your real choices, then pick the one who is best.
I seem to remember reading the good news that a few new doctors had opened practices recently, but their names didn't stick with me because by that point I had found someone.
It took me two months to find an ob-gyn in Hilo that would take a new patient, and I was not happy with the doctor, but I had to stick with him to get my annual checkups.
Wish you the best with this one; it is so important to have a good doctor you trust to care for your pregnancy.
dakine, Lyn Lam didn't used to be with the Waimea clinic did she?
When calling around, if you get a closed practice, ask if they know anyone who is open; that's what I had to do.
