Maggie, The link from Lowes is a light-mid weight 11.5 gauge wire fencing... 9 gauge is heavy mid weight & 6 gauge is the tough industrial stuff that is really hard to enter, and lasts a longer time .... if the galvanized coating is applied thick enough....
there are many excellent sites, inc.:
http://www.fenceonline.com/abcschainlink.html
http://www.doityourself.com/stry/chainlinkfaq
that cover the ins & outs of choosing the fence materials...
Cannot tell what materials the quote you are using as a reference covers.... so do not know if these are comparing the same things... (the lightest weight 12.5 guage chain link is almost half the thickness of the wire in 6 gauge chain link... and is usually very inexpensive compared to 6 gauge...)
