I tell them that it's their responsibility since they brought this child into this world. To give them your undivided attention because of this fact alone. This guy had his kid on the leash at the airport not because he's gonna run off. But it appeared old dad had junior on a leash so he could checkout the "Airport Eye Candy", that was floating all around.
I remember about 8 years back while living near Ala Moana seeing this lady have her child on a leash. She actually pulled the crying boy away from the toys in the store, and proceeded to drag him to the Liquor area of the story. She(mother) screamed & denied child a toy,then dragging him to buy some booze for herself!
For me, there is no excuse in the world to put a child on a leash. I related it to kids being treated like animals! To me it's totally unnecessary to do that. Hell, I have taken my older kids to Rock Concerts & sporting events and never lost track of my kids! We did it when they were small too.`
