Without a frost to kill the tops uala (sweet potato) would not have to be replanted. However it definitely would need to be 'edged'. However that just provides you with greens to eat or mulch/compost material - if you cover the trimmings so they do not keep growing. You then have the option of harvesting tubers if/whenever you want.
