That's outrageous. The link below is the first Wall Bed (Murphy Bed) I bought. The company was "The Bedder Way". At the time the price installed and delivered was $2100. It was justifiable for me because it was installed in a space that would have been otherwise difficult to use. I got my money back and more when I sold the place (times were different! []). You can get the mechanism on E-Bay, as you know. Just have someone build a cabinet around that. I LOVED this bed. It was very comfortable (that depends on your mattress) and just flipped up out of the way to create a sitting area during the day that appeared bigger because of the mirror on the face of the cabinet. Ah, I loved that place. Shoulda never sold it.
I think what you could do is have a plywood box with a bamboo, or what do they call that stuff "lauhala" cover (the bamboo weave).
