Hi everybody.. I have been on maui for 2 years and am currently on mainland. I am i Wyoming native, and love wide open space. Something about the Big Island, Puna side in particular has drawn me recently.
Pahoa town reminds me, from what i have seen on maps, of Makawao and Paia combines.
The way the houses are spread out... the modest, almost 1960s feeling of the neighborhoods (hawaiian beaches) The lack of Giant hotels, littering the shoreline. Puna just seems amazing, like a place i would love to dwell. my wife and i have saved money for the past year and a half, do travel some place again....before this, we were on Maui, and loved it, but could never even dream of affording property there. Plus, i almost felt like it was just too over crowded. it made me sad to see so much traffic at times.
We have enough to buy a lot in hawaiian beaches, which seems beautiful and close to everything we would need.
My Question.... How much would it be, using minimal and recycled recourses, to build a nice small cottage on a piece of land in HB? Does anyone have experience with this? We are for sure, going to come to the area and rent for a bit, to get a real feel for the place. But, right now, it just feels so right, and there are many signs telling us to do it!
Thanks so much!
