I worked for a corporation for thirty years. My medical insurance was always a part of my compensation. I have no children, so I was a low cost employee in this regard. Another married employee may have had six children and cost the company a lot more for insurance. When you say "But don't whine when some company wont recognize your "partner", so they can get cheap insurance... remember its a choice... all the way around..." my hair bristles. My relationship was a choice, the same as any other coupling is a choice. Don't you think I should receive the same benefits from my choice as my co-worker does from his?
Just another thought Jon: When you fill out a form, insurance, mortgage application or what ever, how do you check the boxes that ask "Single, Married or Divorced?" I have always had to mark "single" when in fact I have not been single for more than 21 years. For this short window of time, however, I can mark "married" in California. This may not mean a lot to you, but it does to us. That is really the point.
