Paul, in the exaample I cited in my previous post, the police were aware of issues that the suspect had with the resident and had been on the lookout for him in the area. Even with the heightened police awareness of the potential problem, the resident would have been dead had she not had the ability (.40cal) to defend herself. The police would have been investigating her murder. Incidentally, he wasn't using an evil assault rifle or handgun. He was using a hunting type shotgun that would have been legal under the strictest of proposed gun controls. Of course being a felon he was illegal in the possession of any firearm. Strangely, that didn't seem to concern him. Fortunately, she had one of those evil handguns. Incidentally, I'm not searching archives for this example. It was last week.
