To add to Bob's comments, the release pending investigation usually implies that the crime was not particularly serious (i.e. non-violent) and that there is a reasonable expectation that the suspect will not flee, which, of course, is often a function of geography in an island state.

I'm hoping that some media outlet will pick up on this and do a bigger take on what seems to be your friendly neighborhood fence.
