I was reading the reader comments to the Honolulu SB article There was a couple comments that popped out at me about this issue :
“Whoa…a whole lotta mis-information here; too bad this “reporter” chose these particular individuals to interview. The recent memo from Fannie Mae is nothing new, Fannie has NEVER done loans in lava zones 1 or 2; perhaps these “experts” can shed light on this FACT?”
“Whoa…pretty mis-leading “reporting”. Question: Has Fannie Mae EVER made loans in Lava Zones 1 & 2? Answer: NO. The memo was just a re-wording/clarification of their long-time policy. These “experts” better get their facts straight and quit stirring the pot. “
I wonder if this comment is true. However it doesn’t matter if it is or isn’t. If a large mortgage company like Fannie Mae stops backing mortgages in this area it is very likely others will take similar action.
