] It must be Hawaii's version of "off shore banking."
I lived there 15 years and never heard of the area code 309. City of Chicago only has two area codes, I just double checked, 312 and 773. The 773 area code was started when we lived there, it was for the area North of Lincoln Park. Surrounding suburbs are still 847, 708, 630, 331 and 224. 309 is actually downstate in Peoria. FYI, there is Chicago and then there is the rest of IL, so let's not confuse 309 with 312! []
