Making government work for & with us, since they allowed the sub-standard subdivisions
Maybe a share of the FTR for our "roads" ... oh, right, that didn't work.
The public, ie taxpayer, does not have the funds
Then County should avoid taking on additional responsibilities, such as regulating signage in "private" subdivisions.

Signage update: I recently submitted a request for a stop sign to be replaced from the traffic division as a test. The stop sign in question is located in the 8 Rd easement, however it faces B Rd makai. I did this as a community member, I did not do it on behalf of HARC. I received a response this morning saying that the signs at that intersection are not county maintained, and therefore not eligible to be replaced by the county.
So we're on the right track with requesting signs that we ourselves put up. The safety signage on our roads is apparently up to us, and I think it's worthwhile to pursue.
I'm not saying it's right of the county to not maintain the safety of a county maintained road's intersection (goes back to the spot enforcement, I guess), but if they won't help us then we've got to help ourselves.

And everyone keeps drinking the county Kool-aid that the County has no responsibilities except to collect taxes from you and deliver no services.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I think it's apparent that we've been attempting to get services from the county. Regardless, it's foolish to let your surroundings spiral into decrepit anarchy while you wait for them to come along. Belittling people gets us nowhere.

My read of the easement suggests that County will maintain the PEAR. Wrong?

I just eyeballed it. The sign on the other side of the street is set back very few feet, so it would seem that the sign on that side should also exist very few back. Placing it within the easement. But that was just me eyeballing it. Feel free to go out to the intersection of 8 and B and check it out for yourself.
You are correct on the easement maintenance. This is what I received in an email this morning: "The Stop signs at Moho Road and Road ‘B’ are not county maintained installations." I believe they're trying to get out of installation based on the technicality that the stop sign would be facing B Rd and not Moho.

I know that one: it's called "we don't feel like it".
I wonder what happens if someone steals the sign? I'm not expecting County to replace it, but who would have standing to report the crime and pursue its prosecution? HARC?

Honestly, I think any landowner has the power to do that. If stop signs were HARC property (as these specific signs are), versus H.A. property, then HARC would be entitled to pursue legal involvement as a company rather than on behalf of the community. I will say though, if I'm on the HARC board and someone reports a stolen stop sign to me, then I will report it to the police.

Kalakoa: (Completely consistent with County "spot zoning" and "spot enforcement") Yes, it does appear like the county can pick & choose. I agree this is not fair or right. HARC will have to increase pressure for us.

I do expect govt to work for me and will lobby thru my road maintenance organization for the county to do its job.
Cfscott: Mahalo for continuing to expect better from the county. Persistence will pay off. Have you talked with our county council rep about the PEAR maintenance agreement? The county has FULL liability. It is in the county's best interest to keep appropriate signage up on our portion of the PEAR!

For decades now, and the only "problem" is that people bother to complain.
I keep arriving at this: since nothing will change, let's have full disclosure, so we can move on from the "not fixing it", which arguments solve nothing.
