wow kilauea summit is erupting. a look at the halemaumau web cam will reveal that the gasses coming out are also carrying rock and ash.. a review of this mornings usgs/hvo update says they witnessed incandescent material erupting from the new vent overnight. wow!

and as one friend asked.. 'since this new vent got started what scenarios could one put forth for it to not get bigger? for it to stop?'

Yes... Kilauea has been erupting for awhile now.

A look at this view from a few minutes a go makes it appear as though it's going to explode any second though.[]

According to KITV's 6pm newscast, the vent in Halema'uma'u is now ejecting ash, Pele's tears, and Pele's hair. The guys at HVO are now consulting the folks at Mount Saint Helens because the current phase is similar to what one expects to encounter there.
