such incompetence on their part is no longer amazing. It is routine.
I wonder if DOH employees would earn more than $10 a day if paid for each completed permit application, on a piecework basis? They’d definitely be fired from an Amazon warehouse order picking job after the first day.

Imagine how Hawaiians think about it...
It is an interesting juxtaposition, the dichotomy between respect for the state when folks say the Hawaiians should follow their laws, and disrespect for the state when folks feel they don't get up and go fast enough for developers.

So when one person or entity waits on a permit or other paperwork from the County, that's exactly the same as another person breaking the law?

Let me ask you this, glinda. If you had a routine permit that was left pending for 16 months, would you think the processors were competent? Political considerations are supposed to have nothing to do with it, but when it comes to Hawaiians the Animal Farm concept kicks in: "All animals are created equal, but some animals are more equal than others."
As far as respect for state law enforcement in this context, I am reserving that for the occasion when they actually do something serious about law-breaking protesters.

regarding the county's involvement in the TMT construction:
The article gives an impression the mayor and police plan on full enforcement of the law this time around. The concern voiced by protestors indicates they recognize it too. Here’s an idea. All illegal activity by protestors should be charged the maximum fine for their offenses. The money can pay for additional overtime by police and county personnel on Mauna Kea, as it’s required and caused by illegal protest actions in the first place.
The circle of life.

The statements by Harry Kim and police in the article indicate exactly the opposite.
