Inbound missle from N. Korea alert.
My$0.02, I think this is a topic that effects us here in Puna, no?

Japan also just had a false launch warning: http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/16/asia/japan...index.html

"NHK news alert. North Korea likely to have launched missile. The government J alert: evacuate inside the building or underground. " Their correction to the false alert came 5 minutes later.

Why is no one questioning the state of affairs that led us to the point ...

You mean the 8 years in which Obama did nothing to prevent North Korea from building the devices and testing them?
Would Hillary Clinton have done anything different than Obama? Neither one would stand up to China either. At least now, China is coming around to realizing that siding with North Korea isn't in their best interests.

No. Nuclear proliferation in general. The process of arms reduction under Bush Jr. was reversed in 2002 under the cancellation of the ABM treaty and we started designing more nuclear weapons. Russia also started to build more. No one seemed to really care, even Putin said it probably wasn't a good idea. Obama signed the START I treaty in 2009, but that's been the last effort and the US has not done much to reduce stockpiles https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/START_I

However the US can't police North Korea alone, it's extremely naive to try and blame one president or political party. The cold war of the 70's and 80's had a strong anti-nuclear sentiment world wide. However recently building more nukes and threating to use newer low grade nukes dubbed "mini-nukes" (like Bush wanted to develop for attacking middle east) shows an unnerving trend. It also shows the only way to keep the US and Russia from attacking is to have nuclear weapons for "defense". This is a trend everyone should be against. But sure, let's be small minded, leilanidude, and blame Obama.

I believe you're taking the conversation far away from Puna.

I'll only respond to suggest you read about the various scenarios for handling the North Korean situation. There are no "good" options. They go from bad to really bad, to worse. The last time we approached the problem with belligerence and war-mongering we had three years of lives lost, and the creation of a family dynasty in the North.

General MacArthur, commander of our forces in the Korean Peninsula suggested we nuke the North. Do you think they've forgotten that threat? Do you think their nuclear program might be in reaction to words spoken on our side?

Do you think they might again react to words spoken from our side?
