Thanks AKpilot.
I don't need to answer that now.
Frankly I'm tired of all this nonsense with the TMT.
And to the protesters- What a colossal waste of time...
IMO I don't think It will make that much difference on how the mountain looks.
There's structures up there, I notice that. One more isn't going to be a deal breaker.
I just think of the awesome work they're doing.
There are lots of in your face eye sores in our neighborhoods that do bug me though.
If people care so much why don't they start with respect for their own places.
Would it be so hard to get all the Opala out. And get rid of the Ukana they're never going to use again,
I work hard to try and make my place look nice. People on the street comment how nice my place looks. I like that. Really It's not that hard of a thing to do.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

Hey fellas, I am not saying I don't like the domes. I love them, when I see them, I too remember to cast a longer glance heavenward, perhaps catch the glint of an Iridium flare, or find my favorite Constellation Ophiuchus, the Astrological Outcast.
I am just saying I also thought of my neighbors and considered the fact that they might not enjoy the domes as much as I do. I fly an Airplane for a living, so I rely on science and technology for my bread and butter. In 200 years, Airline Pilots like me may be flying folks to Orbital Platforms, Mars.......beyond? Believe me, I am all for science. I just know that I must leave room for folks with opinions other than mine to speak their mind. Otherwise I am no better than the Protesters on the Summit, deaf to anyone's opinion other than theirs.

1) It's difficult to dismantle something that hasn't been built yet, and;
2) Every observatory on Mauna Kea, including the TMT, is committed to dismantling their observatories once they are no longer operational. It's part of their subleases. None of the observatories will be abandoned and left to rot.

If you are tired of all the man-made eyesores on the island, might i suggest volunteering to pick up all the trash along the roads and beaches.

The TMT has not been built yet and so it is impossible for it to be an eyesore at present.
There are multiple existing telescopes. The poster did not specify which one. The original topic was about the TMT. All in all one must assume that the poster is talking about the TMT as though it has been built already.
Clearly this poster does not know which way is up.
Classic example of a post that should have been ignored.

Edmund K. Silva Jr., who refers to himself as “His Majesty,” sent a letter Aug. 23 to Gov. David Ige saying he was contemplating deployment of his marshals to Mauna Kea and Haleakala to defend telescope protesters from arrest.
“The Royal Marshals are professionals holding the authority and power issued by me to carry side arms and other weapons to enforce the laws of the Kingdom of Hawaii,” said Silva, with the subject line, “Let there be no misunderstanding.”
Please o please o please.
While the cops/dlnr might ignore trespassing, camping or obstructing construction. I doubt they would ignore armed open carry protesters (felonies).
quote:
Lakea Trask, a TMT protester, said Silva was not representing the protesters when he made that threat.
“Those guys came up a few times early on in this stand,” he said.
“They are not part of what we are doing on the mountain.”
Trask said such an action would violate “kapu aloha,” the nonviolent stance the protest leaders have tried to maintain.
“There’s no place for that on our mountain,” he said.
I also love how the protesters also ignore their self-proclaimed king. Restore the Hawaiian Kingdom, but ignore the king!

I'm assuming that people who are vehemently against the dire effects on the environment from astronomy (waiting with bated breath to find out what true ones there are) do not drive vehicles powered by fossil fuels.
