Mayor's Race - What do you think of Billy Kenoi?
#11
You might want to check the skew of facts with previous director.

ETA: I did look at the new budget Kenoi just presented and am impressed that it has been cut and holds the line. Although I have issues with the Bldg Dept - I do not think it is because of staffing levels, but if I use the word incompetence I would be skewered forever, so lets just say that there is a shortage of experienced workers were freely allowed to retire, dare I say shoved out the door, when their skills are needed as budgets are cut.

I believe Boeing did this same thing back in the day - cut all the old guys, and forced retirements, and then had to hire them back as independent contractors at higher rates! [Big Grin][Big Grin]

What concerns me about Kenoi, and his possible reelection, are the major contributors to his campaign. Real estate interests, developers, and lawyers have forked over some serious cash. Adding to my consternation is that many contributors within those groups are located on Oahu and the mainland too. How much of a hoot are they going to give regarding the people and geography of Hawaii County?

No doubt I'm prejudiced, but for the life of me I can't recall many examples of developers and lawyers with altruistic concerns for the public at large.

I'm leaning towards Dominic with his less money but more grassroots approach. I also kindof feel that the Big Island may be better protected under his administration.

@ Jerry -
The thread asked what we think of the mayor. I mentioned 2 things that most people don't know in order to make sure that all the facts are on the table. It is my considered observation over the years that bloggers will not lack for negative things to say about Billy or anyone else. I prefer to keep things positive. That doesn't mean that I have agreed with Billy on everything, because I have not. If you ask the same question about Dominic, I can think of good things and bad things to say about him too.

BTW, Billy did not ask me to say anything at all about him on this blog or on any other venue - just for the record. And please note that I am not running for office :-)

Kenoi Vetoes Geothermal Bills

http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/sect...bills.html

I have mixed feelings about these bills since the first draft, and hope a better one is put forth to address several issues. This will now be part of the political stance Kenoi will explain to our community at some point in time (hopefully)the County's position.

Still waiting since his last meeting in Pahoa where he promised to bring all elected officials and experts to discuss geothermal issues. Waiting not so patiently at this point.

Wonder how Yagong will handle this? Don't know if he has enough votes to override.

This article states he will work with the community. I look forward to that:

Any thoughts?

Kenoi's veto of the geothermal bills shows his total disregard for the people of Puna and his intent to grease the skids for more geothermal and other industry in our beautiful rural district full of no-count Punatics who are expendable collateral damage.

But, but...Billy is a Punatic, too. Or doesn't Glenwood count?
