The zoo was free when I last tried to go. The nearly Equestrian Center is full of boarded horses, not rentals. The arena and track, I think, are used for horse shows on weekends. Mostly western oriented riders, a few into dressage.
I took the wagon drive using mules into Waipio - they trot through the streams but usually walk for better viewing. It was a double ride as I rode in the passenger side of the van going down the trek into the Valley. Whew - glad someone else was driving!

The Zoo is free, 3:30 tiger feeding, petting zoo is open 1 hour in the afternoon (1:30-2:30??) It is small, but I do know that you can spend most of the day there. (did so with a 6 3/4 yr old a couple of weeks ago!) hours: 9-4

The zoo is also known as a "stealth" botanical garden. They have some beautiful plants there, and their collections of palms and water lilies are especially nice. Also have a great yearly plant sale, but it was held fairly recently and won't come around again for some time.

Thanks for the answer Morganlady and Carey...I was sure Carey would know since she and Jim had the 6-3/4 yr. old there recently...by the way they said they'd babysit anyone's kids for free anytime! LOL!!!

Have a great time at the zoo & botanicals....When you go, find the exhibit that smells like popcorn (that one kept us pretty busy....never smelled a zoo before...there are a lot of exhibits that definiely do NOT smell like popcorn).
