preserving Ohia logs

I have some driftwood logs which were brought home from the beach. They dried out naturally and has been outside in our flower bed for around 10 years. I just looked at them and they seem fine. I think the salt water has protected them from rot. Maybe soaking the logs in sea water would do the same and then let them dry out naturally? They do get rained on some but are protected by the eaves some. I dont know what kind of wood, but it still is as hard as rocks.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

Boric acid works like a salt to dehydrate bugs. Probably is the same concept as salt water. I personally throw baking soda all over the place to kill bugs and it appears to also work by dehydration. Hope you are feeling better!

Ohia is a hardwood and good for construction but shouldnt be left in the rain for a long time untrated...
Waiwi will rot fast and is worthless for anything more than a weak border fence that will rot and fall apart in 2 years....

For initial treatment, either buy BORIC ACID (my bad!) solution from the hardware store or use this recipe (JoMax is the brand most have):
Dissolve 4 tbls boric acid in 1 cup boiling water
