The Pahoa Pool hours are posted on the Hawaii County Parks & Recreation website under "Aquatics":
http://records.co.hawaii.hi.us/Weblink8/...Page1.aspx The website says the pool project is "on schedule" and is supposed to reopen by mid-to-late July. Lap and recreational swimming in July will be 9AM to 5:30PM, Monday through Friday, and 9AM to 4:30 PM on weekends. In August, there will also be water exercise classes and swim team meets. @JungleWahine, I don't swim at the Hilo pool so am not sure if you're asking if the Pahoa pool is closed to recreational swimmers during lap swim hours. I was swimming at the Pahoa pool pretty frequently and don't remember there ever being a time when recreational swimmers weren't allowed in the water. There are sometimes a couple of lap lanes and other times the whole deep end is set up for laps, but at least part of the shallower end is always open for recreational swimmers. Also the kiddie pool stays open. Sometimes it gets crowded during swim team hours but there is always rec swimming as far as I recall.

Aloha swimmers! I recently ran in to one of the people involved with the construction at the Pahoa pool who said it was "a tiny bit" behind schedule, and when pressed, was clearly uncomfortable talking about it or giving any etails. So alas, we will have to wait until who knows when. I'm guessing it may be more than just "a tiny bit" behind, so typical, yes?

Has anyone heard anything recently about the Pahoa pool reopening? The Hawaii County aquatics schedule says "mid to late July," but it was published a few months ago. Hoping to be swimming there soon.

Sign on the fence today still says July 17, but this is Hawaii so who knows.

I swam at the Kawamoto pool in Hilo yesterday and spoke to one of the lifeguards about the reopening status. This person said that "they" are saying August, but was not sure about that time frame. My guess is we'll be lucky if it even opens in August. If you go by the pool, it looks like it's still under major construction. What a sad thing, to lose the pool for so long this year and especially this summer for the keiki. They didn't start work on it for months after they closed it, so lame!

Well, the so-called anticipated opening date of July 17, 2013, has passed, so I wonder how much longer the project will take?
I just sent an email to the Mayor asking for an update and copied it to the reporter who wrote the most recent (April 5) Hawaii Tribune story about the pool: http://hawaiitribune-herald.com/sections...edule.html If anyone else would like to write emails, the addresses are: cohmayor@co.hawaii.hi.us and hbishop@hawaiitribune-herald.com I know these projects take time but I'm not sure that the county is monitoring it appropriately.

Saw this on Facebook. Not sure if it is okay to link to this site but it does give a bit more info re Pahoa pool reopening. I trust Rob will delete if this isn't "kosher." Aloha.

I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
