I have AT&T cell service with internet. I got a cell phone booster and mounted it on the roof of my container. Without the booster I get hit or miss coverage outside the container and nothing inside. With the booster I get full phone service and lately pretty much full internet in the container. Internet is still slow though and sometimes drops out though. A friend of mine who lives @ Palainui and Rd 2 has verizon for wireless internet and it is pretty good.

I was there for two and a half years, until late this last summer. I love the climate. My neighbors were good folks. I bought elsewhere only because there was nothing in my taste/range when my house sold. And I just couldn't live in our tiny travel trailer for another year while we built.

Peace and long life

Thank you everyone and thank you Hooligal for the PM.

Your insight has been terrific.

I would love to have "boots on the ground" at this time, but since ive made the decision to come, I want to do it right. I hear all the stories of 4 out of 5 people leaving within a few years, so I am making sure when I come, it is with no loose ends, and with plenty of $$$ stacked up.

It seems, there really arent ANY good places in Puna with fast internet, which will be tough for me, as I upload and download huge files for clients when I do photography.

I've heard that "most people" don't last six months here -- I came close to giving up in the first year, so this seems fairly accurate.

High-speed internet is available anywhere Telcom has poles; it's not cheap ($hundreds/month), but if it's a "business need", it's also "tax deductible".

I wouldnt come without a year or two living expenses put away.

I know others mat not do the same, I have a friend that went with 1,500 in her bank account and a plane ticket, I just dont think that makes sense.

There is a randomness to success here. You may just get tired of the hassles- even with plenty of money.

I could understand that concept. Hawaii is on the ley lines. A lot of the energy you put out influences your fate.

The hassles I hear of, traffic,curruption...are not new to me. I live in South Florida where every day it takes me 45 minutes to go 17 miles. Where the police kick in peoples doors without warrants and murder innocent elderly.

What I get an opportunity to do in Hawaii, is have what I cant have here. Land.

With land, you can create your own sanctuary...plant food, lower your material footprint.. and what me and my wife like to say... CLOSE THE GATE.
