Hawaii County Noise Ordinance?
#11
i'd have to question the cops on that one. a noise ordinance is a noise ordinance. i don't see why it would matter what type of device it's coming from. i would double down on the possibility that they are growing over there.

looks like my only option is ... move from my land that Ive lived on over 15 years.

At the risk of sounding like an uncaring snark, yes: you settled in a non-residential area (perhaps failed to perform due diligence?) and are now expecting "residential" norms.

County allowed this problem to be created -- figuring it wouldn't matter, since nobody was supposed to actually try to live in these "agricultural" subdivisions.

County now perpetuates these "quality of life"" problems by refusing to adjust the regulations to match how the land is actually being used, while silently ignoring (or outright refusing to enforce) any existing regulations that may apply (noise, roaming dogs, there's probably even a traffic code for "unsafe start" that covers the squealing tires, etc).

Good suggestion above re calling the State Dept of Health -- that's the agency that's currently harassing HPP about their "fugitive dust", so apparently they do actually follow through when people complain, unlike certain local government agencies...

Mount very large loudspeakers aimed directly at them and at 5AM - as loud as you can - start playing Islamic call to prayer music. Do this every day for 2 hours.

When confronted by ANYONE - claim its your "religious" right.

You will only need to do this say maybe 3 to 4 days.

Nice! I thought about cranking the stereo up but figured if I did that it'd be me getting noise complaints....BUT if it was a "religious" reason i dont think the police would be too anxious to say keep it down.

I fired off a few emails and calls to the owners of the lot in the mainland as well as the realtor they went through. Was told letters would be sent and the planning dept notified to their living conditions and illegal structures. Probably will cause more problems but at this point I dont really care. Im just over letting these people step on my (and other decent neighbors) rights in the name of "being neighborly and keeping the peace).

Thank u for all your advice and ideas on remeding the situation.

A small insulated shed could be built to shield the sound. If they can't/won't build one, maybe you could help. It would benefit you as well as them. You need to determine how much your piece of mind is worth.

A noise war, while giving temporary satisfaction, doesn't provide any permanent solutions.

Gawd, I feel like Dr Phil here.

Exactly my point! County was so very vigilant about the House of Cards...

You can get different answers about noise levels from different people in the police department. One actually told us that there are no noise restrictions in the subdivisions, which is simply not true. I don't know if they really don't know, or if they just don't want to bother coming out and enforcing.

A noise war will only work to a degree..based on how direct the war & making sure it doesn't piss off anyone else...

We did have one neighbor in our last (mainland) home, one neighbor would have a few too many & start yelling all over the place, esp at his wife... we put up with this for a few years, but when he did it during our wedding reception at our house.... well, that was the stray that broke the camels back.... I also knew his elderly mum had dinner every Sunday... recorded some of his juicy rants to his wife & replayed it back when mummy arrived... that did work.. but it has to be the right combo to work...& his mummy hearing him rant at his wife from speakers was the right combo!

Kalakoa, & to all those that think that the subdivisions here are overly unique, they are not, that last house was in a mainland housing area that was the same type of private subdivieded residential ag lots... They are not new, nor limited to this county/state, they were done in many areas during the late 40's/early 50s... most of us have heard of the swampland subdivisions in Florida...guess what... most of those are also the same... get over the county blame...this was what was done then! move on!
