Mac Nut - We are old school , lived through the depression era as kids,we live quite well, half a tank on the rarest of occasions.Live up in glenwood and also stay with the grandkids in Hawaiian Acres.
We also have taken in a wayward great grand daughter with a new born, and we have a special needs grandson who needs specialized medical care in Hilo 3 times a week. Sometimes having that extra 1/4 tank makes all the difference if we have to haul a boat n trailer from Kona side to Hilo side with the 4x4 that gets 10 to 12 mpg on a good day.Being great grand parents is a FULL time job and we can set examples for the younger generations. A half tank just sometimes does not allow us the mobility needed if one of our extended ohana is stuck up in Hawi on down in the loi in waipio valley. Being prepared is just common sense.

Well, I have to fill up two vehicles every 100-125 miles. But they have small tanks. They also get about 85-95 mpg every time I check it. One is a SYM HD200 scooter. The other is a Kymco People 150 scooter. I ride one of these most anywhere I go. Our other vehicle is a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup (the small one), that gets about 25 mpg. It's driven mostly by my wife, or when we need to haul big stuff. You wouldn't believe how much stuff I can haul on the SYM. I took it shopping today at Kost U Less. Yeah, I get stuck in some downpours.....but they are warm downpours. Not like Pacific Northwest nasty, cold, constant drizzles. But I road year round there too. I just love to ride motorcycles, scooters, whatever.
