Here's a little redirect back to reality for you KathyH....
You crossed the line here on these forums as well as TA, way way too far. If you have any dignity you would get on with your life somewhere else. I didn't even read your entire post since I don't care much for dysfunctional drama.

I'm glad you posted again, welcome back.
I never thought there was any restriction on the whereabouts of people who posted, just that the topics discussed are generally Puna & Hawaii oriented. We seem to have a fake Mexican on board, so I would think a genuine South Hilo resident is just as entitled to be here.
I don't believe anyone was particularly concerned with the details of how Tripadvisor works, they were more interested in the content. I think some of us believed the line between commentary & fact became blurred. For instance, we all say "it took forever to drive through that traffic" or "I was choking on that smoke" or "I'm starving." But generally, we understand in conversation those are just figures of speech. In writing them, however, they take on a more literal meaning.
My business doesn't depend on tourism in Puna, but I understand what it's like when you work for years to build up your customer base, only to have hurricanes, lava, and negative comments chip away at your livelihood. I don't know if you have ever run your own business, but it's not easy. There are so many variables beyond your control, and any one of them can make the difference between profit and a struggle to pay the bills. It's something a business owner has to worry about every single day.
Not everyone prefers a rural setting like Puna, but many do. I for instance don't understand why anyone would pay a penny to go to Las Vegas, but people seem to like the place. I certainly would never advise anyone not to go there, because I recognize some people like what the casinos offer.
What you say about the makeup of the Punaweb community is probably true, but it's true about the real world as well.

HOTPE - seconded. I also think TA's recent business model is flawed and will come back to haunt them. Destination Experts (DEs) don't seem to be vetted, at least not professionally, there's no way to know if they really are experts (clearly not in many cases) and is ultimately going to end up with them fighting several legal issues. Well, at least in my opinion.
But I'm not an expert.
Mahalo Tom for your own choice of words.
Merry Christmas,

You are a peculiarly intelligent person, pog. It's why I like you so much and look forward to your posts here. You got my point.
Merry Christmas to you and family as well!

KathyH... you have been one of my favorites during all of this and I have always appreciated your clear-headed thinking and earnest concern for the community. I also find it to be a very sensible wake up call to remind everyone that there is actually a "real" world out there beyond this silly internet stuff-- your allusions to being "dead tired" and having "so much to do" and responsibilities to family were very clear to me in their intentions and I can appreciate that very much.
Reminds me of a time (in nam) when I was on Facebook, and somebody didn't like my sense of humor on an occasion and threatened to "un-Friend" me.
My reply was "well, when I see you out on the street, will you still be my "Real" friend?
"Well, yes" they said.
Then, in my book, that's all that really matters.
I also appreciate that you can tell when someone is lightly joking.
Within the last few hours I have recently been referred to as "a fake Mexican."
That is comical. Out of being a vet, an alcoholic and a Mexican, that person chose to focus on the "Mexican" part. I truly AM a Mexican.
I'll make no comment on the other two.
Take good care of yourself. I consider it an honor that at one time I was considered as being in a coordinated effort with you. Have a Merry Christmas.
The Mexican

I always thought Kathy was a harmless "know it all" until the Royal murder topic reared it's ugly head. When she allied herself with that mousy jerk and started speculating about the murderer being framed by the kalapana Hawaiian Mafia, I saw her true colors.
I now forgive her, and realize that racism is subtly, but firmly, ingrained in some people, no matter the extent of their "dead-headedness".
So Kathy; goodby and good riddance. Don't forget to lock your car doors when Hawaiians walk by in a parking lot.
Please respond with a lengthy explanation of your unquestioning acceptance of all minorities, and your attendance at the wonderfully self indulgent Altamont Peace Festval.

Dear The Mexican,
I wanted to clarify my earlier comment. You understood correctly, I did call you a fake Mexican, and yes, I was lightly joking. Glad you were amused.
(* I make no claim knowing whether you are of Hispanic descent, or if you were born in Mexico. Either could be possible. But you are certainly not a Vietnam vet from Mexico, with a time traveling internet connection capable of accessing Facebook from 1968.
It is certainly not easy to create a narrative about a time era you didn't live through, and make it believable to someone who did. So, kudos for giving it your best shot. I certainly would watch the first episode of "Far Out Time Vet" on the SyFy Channel. Tag line: She's not out of time, yet. But soon she'll be... out of sight!)

Dear "Here On The Primal Edge",
Did it ever occur to you that, even to this day, Vietman is still right there, on the map, on the earth, the way it was in '68, was a few days ago, and most likely will be tomorrow?
