Rural Ag or not, It's illegal to discharge a firearm in a populated area unless you are defending your life against an armed intruder. HPP is a populated area, so either a home invasion was occurring, or someone was violating our gun laws.
Either way, that's why I call 911 when I hear shots in my populated neighborhood.
18 rounds? Pig hunter indeed. Even if that were believable or legal, I wouldn't want a hunter with such poor skills shooting around my house.

firing a shotgun straight up. Not a big deal unless it's buckshot.
Bullets would be a blatant disregard for life.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

The 10 round mag limit technically only applies to handguns not long guns.
Maybe someone got a new rifle there in HPP?
We hear gunshots all the time out here where we live. So what's the fuss? I could see some reason for alarm if this happened in downtown Hilo or Kona etc. but here in Puna? LOL. Silly nonsense.
That part of HPP is a pretty thoroughly built out suburb with one or more house per acre and 135 foot wide lots, so shooting in this area is totally irresponsible. It is not as rural as your neck of the woods, and even there one would have to be careful about which direction the gun was pointing, or risk putting a bullet through someone else's property.

It only takes a couple seconds to drop a spent mag and pop in the next one.
Only takes about an hour to print a 30 round clip on the 3D printer.

I don't know much about those printers, but don't they make parts out of plastic? I wouldn't care to have a plastic magazine. Also, if a person gets caught with a magazine that holds more rounds than the law provides, there will be a legal problem.

You can own a clip over 10 rounds for a rifle. That round limitation only effects pistols.

It's legal to shoot on ag land as long as the bullets don't leave your property. And that includes HPP, even if every lot is developed.

And just how many run of the mill backyard shooters can do that on a one acre lot that is 135X350 feet? Just because you can do something under the law doesn't mean you should do it. Shooting in the night in that part of HPP is still irresponsible.

Yeh, the ten quarter-second burst moved from the property NNE to the one WSW. They are sharing?

Pigs travel in groups and they move around at night. Lots of folk in HPP and all over Puna have had issues with the pigs destroying their yards and are armed. Many also own more than one adjoining one acre lot.
