I wonder how much power it takes to close the door on the telescope dome? It can't be a small amount.

Assume the huge motors will eat most stray power events, and it's just the instruments that need clean power.

Yes, but if they lose power - and need to close the dome due to weather, they have to have something fairly robust. At the least, generators just for that purpose.

Forget the generator. We used to have one although its main purpose was to keep people alive if they were trapped at the summit due to a bad storm. The risk of an oil spill was considered more of a problem so it was removed.
