Who wants, who NEEDS broadband???

Pahoated, this bill is NOT about studying the issue. Why would you try to mislead people like that? The bill calls for holding the PUC accountable for making sure the state's IT providers follow through on the letter of the law already in place. Here's the link to the proposed bill; read it for yourselves, folks!

RE: Pahoated, I've observed you to post misleading statements over time and just decided not to respond to what I feel are campaigns on your part to create disharmony in Puna and I suspect your name here is an alias for a missionary family descendant who wants to rule Puna!

Sure they have to add more "ports" (whatever that is)

Equipment which provides the actual DSL carrier signal on the copper.

The problem is that Telcom isn't really a "phone company", they're owned by some kind of financiers who consider "capital expenditure" an unnecessary burden on their profit margin. Service may be provided where it is profitable, in the high-density areas of Hilo and Kona.

This is right from your post:
"From Joy: Testimonies for my resolution for a broadband/cell service study for rural communities are needed ASAP."
This is the title of the bill:
"REQUESTING REPORTS REGARDING STATE AGENCY ACTION TO ENSURE ACCESS BY RURAL COMMUNITIES TO CELLULAR AND BROADBAND SERVICES."

What is a REPORT except the result of a STUDY? You are allowed to take cheap shots at me. I am not allowed to take cheap shots at you. Fine, you had to take your below the belt punch. That is what is called a Punatic Punch, usually pretty weak and ineffective. Never saw so many old people defend doing nothing but studying and reporting, year in, year out, never any actual doing.

It's an EXPORT of REVENUE to create PAPER.

When all is said and done, we taxpayers will have a document that can "advise, specify and recommend" -- we can write our messages on that, fold it into a paper airplane, and call it "email", right?

Yeah, these endless studies cost a lot of money. It's such a laugh, these people want study after study, then when Abercrombie approved a study to link the state's computers and networks better, $11 million when it got shut off the other day, then the same people go psychotic, "OMG, the cost of worthless studies, what a waste!".

Why is this topic even a question that needs legislative action (at more taxpayer expense)? Utility fiber optic monitoring of the power lines providing rural internet access is all over the mainland. Why is there a study or report necessary? Aren't there already dozens of these studies, reports and actions available online? Oh wait, you have to be online to get those... The point is this is being done by cooperation between the PUC (PUD on the mainland) and the utility. This isn't something that needs legislation to happen. The PUC is there for the public. If the public can't figure out how to make requests to the PUC, then that is the fault of the public.
