Hawaii worst state in country to run a business
#11
>With a top rate of 11 percent, Hawaii has among the highest individual income taxes in the country.

Oh dear Lord I only WISH we could get taxes that ridiculously low in Canada. Our lowest tax rates START at 25% and if you make big money you will pay up to 42% in taxes. That's just federal and provincial (state) taxes, that doesn't include sales tax, fuel tax, goods and services tax (5% to the federal gov on everything you purchase), hidden taxes, etc.

We have Tax Freedom day in Canada which is the unofficial day that you stop working for your taxes and start earning money for yourself. This year it was June 9. http://www.fraserinstitute.org/research-...overnment/

See, Hawaii, cheer up. It could be worse. MUCH worse Smile

Wages or payment for current services fall outside the definition

What about if a county worker receives substantial wages yet feels entitled to use his pCard to buy personal items on the taxpayers dime?
Or if a county worker feels entitled to hire other workers based more on their relationship to him rather than the stated requirements for the position?
Then that new employee thinks they're entitled to accept the top of the wage scale for a position they're not qualified to perform according to the county?
Or relatives who are hired when an opening becomes available?
Or a preponderance of one group of people over others?
Or workers who are entitled to have more coworkers to share their duties than almost any other state in the country?

The east side of the Big island also one of he easiest places Ive ever seen to run under the radar ....lots and lots of small sole proprietor cash businesses ... I am sure all the gardeners (just to name an easy target) carry insurance, pay workmans comp, federal payroll tax, state payroll tax, g.e.t and keep accurate up to date books

Im also sure that ever one who hires one, checks for all of the above ....

And your problem with these hard working people is? You certainly know that if gardeners and other self employed individuals followed every regulation and paid every tax that the blood suckers in Honolulu have come up with, there would be absolutely no meat left on the bone.

You are assuming ....I actually feel this is bootstrap capitalism at its best .....just dont sue me when you fall off a ladder at my house.

Or whine about it being hard to be in business .....Its tough to be in business and pay the required overheads ....and compete with those who do not.

I got my start this way ... once one has assets, lawyers and cpa's we lose the luxury of operating without or employing folks who do not and need to go mainstream

such is the one way street tort system,

Probably doesn't help to have an over billion dollar project that has jumped through every legal hoop get held up by a small group of protestors and a local and State government that refuses to enforce the law and a governor with a spine made out of jello.
