I'll continue to fight to KEEP PUNA RURAL because I'm not movin and I move here because it was rural. I think Pele is the onlt hope we have of keeping it rural, the county won't, can't, could care less, and would prefer to profit. As John Dirgo, kona Real Estate Agent told me on the phone, 50k more people will be moving into Puna next year. "I tell everyone to buy land there." Thanks. Why not tell em to buy in Kona side? You keep em. But that's part of the "flipper" mentality. Buy em, rip em pin to pin, spec, and flip.
The selling of paradise, wholesale in the NY Times. RE agents makin $$ for dealing the island to the world. Gotta just love that.

Sounds like a personal attack to me.

Sorry but neither of these gentlemen have been attacked personally but more like professionally. Since one is a Realtor and the other is a builder...
Next!

I think it was Rob Tucker who advised us about 'nit-picking' and giving the posts of others a lenient read. I think this is excellent advice and I really do wish everyone would adopt it. I think that we could have more interesting, in-depth 'conversations' on infinite topics on this forum--ones that Rob wouldn't have to 'edit' or break-up because we would be civil to one another.
Ego is a very interesting thing in humans. Reading a good forum like Punaweb is an excellent way to learn about human psychology. Ego gets in the way every time. (And I'm definitely NOT putting myself above the fray. This is something I work with in myself every day.)
For some reason, some people can be just as irritating as possible, but no one criticizes them while others may be outspoken, but not really that offensive and be attacked repeatedly. What's up with that?
If I were Queen, anything that is nice about someone else would be allowed to be posted.
Let's employ the Golden Rule and put down the magnifying glass. If there's someone we don't like, let's shut up about it. Just don't read their posts!

Back to topic:
NanawaleJulie asked about people being banned from forums. As DanielP noted this has happened here back in 2005.
There was an individual who, having lived here a few short years, concluded that his knowledge and understanding of the evils and realities of Hawaii needed to be shared and exposed and he seemed to see evidence of this most everywhere - even on Punaweb. Postings, replies, non related topics all became examples of his point of view. Arguing and bickering broke out. He was quite skillfull at turning topics of discussion into talks and arguments about himself. He also took to harassing Punaweb members at their homes by phone and email.
His point of view is not what got him banned. That all was a thin disguise for his demand for attention. By aiming barbed statements at people and insisting that the righteousness of his purpose excluded any self examination he burned his bridge here. I was not going to let one attention seeking loudmouth bring down the whole forum even though he had some valid points. So he was banned. Unlike Konaweb I do not ban people easily and charge them $15 to return. Punaweb is not a money making enterprise. I banned this person after his demands for attention exceeded my capacity to deal with him and the ban is permanent.
Once banned he tried to return under other nom-de-guerres and I had to get the D.A. to contact him and bring him up to date on Hawaii Criminal Code. I will guess he might be reading this as I post.

My old friend and mentor, Monk, used to say ,"John, it doesn't matter what they do, it only matters what you do." He would also say, "Your opinion of me is none of my business". This was from a person who walked the talk every day of his life. I really miss that old man.

Gotta love that.
Thank you to those giving a bigger benifit of the doubt.
Those who know me, know for sure any of the BS I seem to get involved with ain't for attention.
As aninimoty is the most valuable of assets I would rather keep. I'm a real private person actually. I wouldn't be signing any perpituity clauses for fame and fortune. I just get to a point now and then and I need to say something.
And the creative editing of my post is part of the antagonism, as seen by Dave too, lol

rearranging my quotes. I didn't say "He" was a flipper. A whole different sentence. But if you're looking to criticize you'll find something.
My biggest fan Carol, has given me the most, aloha. Thanks for turning the red off.
And I still don't have an edit icon.
Rob has no time for me as he's stated many times, in emails. I bear no grudges.
I wish him all the success he desires.
i get pissed off from time to time like anyone else. But better to be pissed off than pissed on.
So I'm done pissin in the wind.
What's gonna happen to Puna has nuthin to do with me. I ain't standing in front of da hele on bus. Time to feed da sheep. You all play nice now.

If you log in before you try to edit, the edit icon then comes up. I did the same thing - tried to edit and was like "hey where's the icon?" then signed in and there it was!
