Getting enough sleep?
#11
Actually, it's not so bad, and it's a job I love so that helps a lot. The worst part is getting calls throughout the night about problems and then having to attend meetings early the next morning, but that doesn't happen too often.

Shift work is definitely the hardest though. Changing your schedule continuously cannot be healthy, but is something not unique to Hawaii. Having shifts change at short notice is the worst though.

It was an eye-opener when I first arrived in Hawaii to see how many people commute so early in the morning. Since I've never lived anywhere else in the US I don't know if it's the same in every state, but it was very different to the UK. However, given that so many work in the tourist industry, I wouldn't be surprised if Hawaii has more early-morning commuters given that hotel and related companies need staff 24-hours a day in addition to the other industries that require that level of service (hospitals, utilities etc). Also, many of those workers are unlikely to live near their workplaces given the relatively low wages.
