Tried it. They want $80.00 a day for a sub/compact rental picking up here and dropping off in Kona. They incorporate the drop off fee in the base rate.

If you are going soon... have you considered calling the local offices and asking? They brought a fleet of rental cars over from Kona for Merrie Monarch and they are still sitting over by the civil air patrol waiting to be taken back. One would think they would send one over on a one-way trip for cheap.

I just tried it with pickup on the 21st i Hilo and dropoff on the 22nd of May in Kona. Some cars were as cheap as $50.

I have another month. Having major dental work done on the mainland. Need to do this trip on the cheap (airfare is free thanks to mileage). I can take the bus to kona and rent a vehicle at enterprise(in town)....then drive back home for the evening...then return it in the morning at the airport location in kona for $35.00 ( no drop off charge)....but it's a lot of driving.

Yep...Its minimal with one of those small 4 cylinder cars.
