Shipped door to door via Matson for $4400, but the local trucking was probably cheaper since I lived so close to the Oakland docks. I don't regret shipping my things at all because having them here really makes it feel like I am at home.

Rob, congrats from Ed and Ralph! We're still about 18 months away from our move, but hope to run into you on one of our visits. We are wondering what size container you needed. We're in San Jose, so I think the local charges will be a bit more. We've been taking in all the advice on PW regarding what to bring and what to leave behind and have started our take/leave lists!

Rob glad to have you as a neighbor. Mark and I are excited watching you beginning the building process.
Building a dream is not always easy. You took the hardest step. To walk away from everything. I commend you for turning your words into action.
We are here to help if you need.
Aloha

Ed & Ralph, it was a 20' and it was plenty of room for my stuff. I took up every inch of the floor space but didn't stack very high. I was living in a 1 bedroom apartment.

aloha rob,
congratulations and good luck in building/finishing your new home...i'm sure you'll be in good hands with your builder since alot of punawebbers have worked with him.....wish i was there to see the progress - i'm sure it will be built even before you know it and you'll probably already start getting plants from all your neighbors and friends - generousity is such a wonderful thing with your punaweb community - i can wait to get started on planning my garden there - it was 30 years in the making.
i'm even bringing in all my succulents with me in a suitcase if you can believe it.
best,
noel

Thanks for the info, Rob. We've started our take/leave list in anticipation of our move next year. Did you ship your car as well? Just to make you feel even better, raining here most of the day and temps in the 50's, dipping to the 40's tonight. I want to wear my shorts! Soon, soon.....
