just a few days ago at that exact spot saw about 6 cops shoulder to shoulder searching the ground. For evidence?

"Am I the only person who finds it jarring and distasteful? Am I remembering this right -- that it just wasn't done? Or did I just not notice?"

I want to remembered for how I lived, not where I died. I've left instructions to my family spelling out my wishes, and though I do understand that other people have other beliefs, my instructions are clear.

In one town I lived, there was a horrific accident where a pedestrian got ran over, dragged, and eventually beheaded by a truck. The body and head left the truck in different places about 50' from each other and on different sides of the road. The family put a memorial up at both where the body was and also where the head was found. I always thought it was weird, but figured it was part of the grieving process.

Looks the memorial was removed. I noticed today driving by that it was mostly gone except for a few decorations scattered on tha ground.

Only since being here have I noticed "In Memory of..." lettered on car windows.
I thought that was a bit odd at first--were they killed by the car? Did the current driver inherit the car from them?
But then I saw an "In Memory of..." on the wall of a public toilet. Now the car thing seems pretty normal.

Easy to put up a memorial. I wonder if they made an effort to confront him on his criminal behavior before it came to a tragic end?

You can't really put blame on the families of drug addicts in hawaii. Even if people wanted help there really isn't an infrastructure for that kind of service. If youre a methhead you are prolly going to jail to dry out at some point... or the cops will shoot you because you arnt thinking clearly.
