Theo and I are just scraping ourselves up off the floor with shock. You guys are THE BEST. I was so afraid I was asking too much. It seems I always have my hand out for one cause or another. There are tears coming to my eyes!!
Nate, you are INCREDIBLE. Here, chickens roam free but pigs and cattle are it. With this they can buy a small cow or two or three, and in two years they couble their money by selling it. You have just changed the lives of an entire family.
Ed & Ralph, KC, rbonplaza, bullwinkle, John, Carolann, Cahnle, pog, Nancy....Thank you all for your support.
I will buy the basic lumber for $600 and am pouring a cement pad for an added on Kitchen. Wages are cheap cheap... Ther only thing we are salvaging is the roof. This will allow a family to have hope for their children's future.... WOOO HOOOOOO...
i REMAIN AGHAST... Pam

Aloha Pam!
Just a by-the-way, I am part of the Ed and Ralph (RB is my sister's nickname for me) contingent supporting your efforts! Wishing you the best. Please check your email.... I forwarded your note to someone who might be able to offer some help with providing shelter to the people you are trying to help. No promises... let's see if he responds. Also, just wanted to remind you we met at the Sunday Dive back in November. Ed provided the bean dip!

Just a note to say THANK YOU again to you all. I am currently trying to figure out how to access my PayPal account funds. Whoa, Willam!!! I set this up to buy something on ebay a long time ago and never used it again. However, I am resourceful enough to get to it.
Nate, how about pigs, cows and the materials to pen and feed them? Does that sound reasonable? That and a few gardening tools and seeds to expand the veggie garden? Hope so. Let me know asap.
Others, all funds will go toward putting in a wood floor (as the children are falling through holes in the bamboo one that s 3 feet off the ground) and then walls. If we get enough fundds, we will have glass in the windows to let light in; otherwise it is wood shutters. Once I have some of the funds in hand I can begin having the wood cut. This is all done by hand of teak, if you can believe it. It is the most cost effective way in this isolated mountain area. Transportation of goods costs ten times what the goods themselves cost. Besides, using the local village assets if financially beneficial to the whole village.
I am still both floored and excited. Love you all.
Pam
PS... had the first surgery yesterday. I was awake for the whole thing (which I was not happy about at the time but now am glad for the experience). I go back in two days for a check up and again in two weeks. In between I will return to the village and get the wood cutting started. These people are so poor I have to pay by the day for labor and in advance for materials...
I also purchased two bicycles for the family from my pocket. This gives a really good boost to transportation and will save hours of walking. Remember that without refrigeration it's the store every day you eat perishables. Bikes have nice big baskets on them.
Will continue to keep you updated and will post photos when I get to a place where I can upload them.
Again, my warm thanks.
Pam

Pam sounds good. You know I have mucho expierence in 3rd relief and I know first hand what it takes to break the cycle. In Asia the New year is upon us and it's customary to "pay your debts", for good luck in the coming year. All my student loans are paid off now and i'm pretty much just being greedy.
Hope your feelin better.
I was hiding some money to buy a '08 Harley Road King, then the "Prime Minister" in charge of over ruling dumb man purchases stepped in. To say my "bubble got popped" is an understatement. The first thing out of her mouth was " where am i going to sit?". I had dreams of cruz'n Old route 66, going to the Grand canyon, cruz'n the Vegas strip, then POW. I felt like I got punched in the stomach.
"She's coming too?", fug.
Special Agent- "Lo Fun"(play on words she's Asian) found the Harley money and quickly found all kinds of things she "needed". Here I am, thinking I'm gonna get my back tattoed, buy a new Hog and have enough for a beater hot rod. NOPE !!!!
Now I just sit in the corner sucking my thumb and pulling on my ear, dreaming about cruz'n my Hog. I try to figure out what happened but it only makes the healing harder.
Special Agent "Lo Fun"...Mission accomplished.
Nate Wong
So now i have to look for a new hiding place..wish me luck

Carolann.. it was either the RoadKing or a stretched frame fatboy from jesse james shop in long beach. I had the Roadking covered but I got greedy and started thinking about the custom fatboy too. Thats when Special Agent "Lo-Fun" found the "secret fund". My brother in law has a '04 candy apple red roadking, which I really secretly hate him for. I think he snitched me out because we were talking about bikes at Christmas. I might just pick up a used one in a "divorce sale" while I'm waiting to make the move? Meth heads make some decent bikes here in SoCal...lol..one usefull thing for it.
It all works out,,,"Lo-Fun" got the ikea kitchen, jetta and new closets,,,the Thai's get a new life,,, the local little league gets taken care of and i get the carpet pulled out from under my dreams, j/k.
I'm going back to the corner now to suck my thumb and pull my ear. call me for my snack and juice.

David M: got your pay pal deposit; many mahalos.
Nate: will you consider letting me use a part of your donation toward the house construction? Half? A third? It would REALLY help but I will of course respect your instructions.
It's hard to explain to them that I will buy three cows when their little one fell through the floor 3 feet to the dirt because it has rotted out. Bamboo is good flooring for a while but not 15 years! Let me know.

Or heres an idea ? the lazy drunk goes into the woods and cuts down some new bamboo for the floor? I'm sure i can dig up ten bucks for a saw if you need it? The thought of a new "pad" for this drunk guy to kick back in all day and pickle his liver makes me sick.
I don't have any issues with helping out but its gotta be a two way street. When you come to the "table", you bring your assets. He has the ability to work there, I don't. I am bringing the money to the table, he's not. It can't be all of the kind hearted people on Punaweb and no "sweat equity" on his part. Does he think that his Kharma is so good that this is just a "Kharma gift" ?
Taking care of animals is hard work, lazy drunks don't like to work hard. Building a farm makes much more sense to me in this situation, instead of building a new "Jungle Hut-Tiki Lounge" with happy hour all day long. There has to be some "sweat equity" on his part. I'm not fricken santa claus just flying thru the jungle dropping off gifts. This is a chance for them to change thier lives but they have to make it work. I don't consider it a "gift" but a "hand-up". There has to be sacrifice in anything that is worth having.
If falling thru the floor was such a huge concern for them, they would have adressed it a year ago. Walk your asses into the woods and find some bamboo for the floor. You asked "how do I explain I'm buying cows when the kids are falling thru the floor?" I say smack the first person in the mouth that has the unmitigated gall to question anything that appears on the door step as a "hand-up". When I was a child the USDA gave out food rations of butter, peanut butter, canned pork and other stuff in big ass #10 cans. We didn't have a can opener to open the cans and my "Dad" wouldn't let my "Mom" ask the neighbor for one so his kids could eat. My "mom" had to sell the meat rations at about one tenth the value to buy a can opener. Then it was Peanut butter soup, peanut spread on crackers and just plain globs of it on a plate for meals. Still we never complained.
Explain it like this, "Your going to have to fix your house with materials you get from the jungle but these farm animals will make your family 50 times better off while were waiting for the farm to mature and you start making some money".
In 6 months when the pigs have a litter or in a year when the cow has a calf then they can sell it for "comforts", till then get your asses to work!
Really Pam?, tell me would it be cool for you if I asked for help, then sat around sipp'n jack daniels all day while you built me a new house? At some point as a person you have to want to change your circumstances. I know the damage alcohol does to a family first hand, I lived it, grew up and out from under it.
The house is not SUSTAINABLE ! Your gonna build this hut, then 1 year later or 2 years later they are gonna be back in the same place they are now, just the money was wasted.
As a self described "Trekkie" I must also add at this point that you are violating the Star Fleets first general order of not interfereing with indigenous people j/k.
All jokes aside, I know your gonna do what your gonna do and i know you could build the Taj Mahal with $50 bucks and a box of tooth picks. That being said, I guess you shouldn't keep me in the loop regarding this "project", because it's just gonna put a sour taste in my mouth and the next "lost soul" you feel the need to rescue, won't get my help.
Nate
