I spent the night out there last night & around 3am I had a dream that the lava stopped! I got up and walked out to check & could still see a glow at the ocean, so I blew off the dream. Hmm. At 11am this morning we saw a white dog running along the side of the road right as we came out of the gate at end of the road - my companion yelled "Pele's Dog!". Chicken Skin Time Smile I think it belonged to someone at the gate, but still!

So a question. I was told it's bad luck to look directly at Pele's dog. So I was trying not to look at it, but didn't want to hit it if it ran back into the road. What's worse, looking at Pele's dog or running over it? Kinda kidding, but kinda not.

Tell me more Erin...I didn't know Pele had a dog!

Oh yeah - and how cool is it that you dreamed the flow stopped? You were right there picking up vibes...are you our new "Medium?"

i thought it was the night marchers you're not supposed to look at.
we too saw a white dog on Tues night and my daughter flashed on Pele's dog..we both got chicken skin!
Never heard it was bad luck to look at Pele's dog or the old women with the white hair walking down the road..i've seen that too by and by over the years...i mean i wouldn't stare, just maybe glance.
i have GREAT respect for all things Pele...even fear...
Tuesday night when i saw kids throwing rocks in the flow and people lighting sticks and poking her with sticks i had to walk away

Well I am one of those people who put off till tomorrow what I could have done 2 days ago and I could just kick myself. Now that the flow has stopped, I guess there won't be much to see except hardened over black lava and steam.

I have a great deal of awe and respect for Kilauea, and volcanoes in general, or Pele', if you prefer. I have no issue with expressions of innocent curiosity and I don't think Pele' was offended by it. The rocks and sticks certainly caused no harm to the flow. I'm sure ancient Hawaiians expressed their curiosity too, although no doubt with more fear. I would object to viewers whose antics rose to the point of detracting from the experience of other viewers. That would be disrespectful. Actions in the presence of other people that offend their true beliefs, is also disrespectful, if that is in fact the case. Viewing nature at it's grandest can certainly rise to that of a near religious experience.

Yep. It is the Night Marchers that you are not supposed to look at, or really even be close to. You can hide and hope they don't see you. I suppose THEY could have a dog. But Pele doesn't have a dog.

She does have a bunny.

Either way, the poor dog needs to be corraled so that he isn't hurt on the road.

People throwing sticks and so forth into the lava need to be told "No" by whomever is available.

This really messes things up for us.

Might need Brianna.

Is it true that the County, due to changes in the lava flow, is setting up a new viewing area on beach Road in HPP?
