It is sad that so often those on the right feel a need to go out of their way to taint the truth so as to promote their ideology. Like their practice of gerrymandering, they are good at twisting reality to gain where just by the numbers, without all that slight of hand stuff, they are a minority.

Here are Mazie's exact comments:

The Knights of Columbus have taken positions which are opposed to federal law. Mazie did not denigrate Brian Buescher's religion or his beliefs, she simply asked him whether he would set those beliefs aside when they conflicted with federal law. That's not bigotry, it's properly vetting a candidate for a position on the bench.
What if a Muslim judge in America, a member of Knights of Islam* who had shown support for Sharia law was nominated for the federal bench, and Mazie asked them:
“Will you recuse yourself from all cases in which the Knights of Islam* have taken a position?”
Would Mazie be a bigot, or a senator asking a tough, challenging question which might affect decisions made by that person in the future?

The National Review excerpt you posted is not a quote, they reworded the original quote so it would better fit the narrative they wished to convey. For instance, you can’t be bigoted toward the Knights of Columbus since it’s not a religion, but you can be bigoted toward Catholics. So they substituted one for the other.

If you read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, the founding fathers specifically made a point that every religion had freedom to practice and worship in America. There are no exceptions listed. Muslims have the same rights as Catholics.

Yes, my opinion. Based on Tulsi’s early compliance with her father’s beliefs, and her later support for his political agenda. Her comments about Mazie struck me more like someone who took a personal offense to Hirono’s mention of the Knights, which Tulsi then defended with more zeal than I’d expect if it were simply about a stranger, Brian Buescher, someone she has nothing to do with, since she’s not even voting on his appointment.

Mazie will do or say whatever is against what Trump or the Rs want. Nothing else matters to her. She has painted herself in the corner and intends to stay there. For example, Trump says we're pulling our troops out of Syria. About time! Pull them out today! Who could argue with that? Mazie of course:

Agreed...I googled Sharia law in America, this is the first note - In the United States, various states have "banned Sharia law", or passed some kind of ballot measure that "prohibits the states courts from considering foreign, international or religious law." As of 2014 these include Alabama, Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Dakota and Tennessee. Not so for the Knights of Columbus.
I'll stick with my original post - Comparing Sharia law to the Catholic religion does not deserve an answer. and YES, Muslims have the same rights as Catholics.
