CCTV (wilife) and a heavy duty electric locking gate gives me piece of mind.... and you'll know exactly who is messing with your property!

Heres is a video captured from one of our camera's while we were at the beach back in January.

Makes ya nervous knowing their are people around here who just drive around looking for easy victims to take advantage of...

Big_Island,you have a great surveilance system.
I have a question for you.Let's say,the big guy would have been
caught on the camera taking stuff from your house,is it enough evidence for the police to put him in jail?

It one thing to hear about it, but another one to see someone casing the place, pretty scary. If your gate wasn't locked, they'd gone in!! Makes me feel pretty defenseless. I wonder what made them stop in the first place? What were they thinking? It seemed so bold, with neighbors driving by and all.

Watch out for big guys with wiener dogs![}Smile] Sorry I know it's not funny at all, but I thought that dog was outta place.

And yes, if you have video of that can you use it as proof?

quick question - anyone with dogs had a robbery occur? We're hoping that dogs will be enough of a deterrent before we start shopping CCTV.

big island: that was some great video. wish you could have zoomed in and gotten the license plate number.

my very good friend was being harassed for over a year. she finally got video of the culprit. the person was pulled in for questioning and made a full statement admitting guilt. she was booked and finger printed. the sad thing is that the offender is my cousin's current girlfriend. my friend is the ex-girlfriend. my point is that the video is considered evidence.

I think having dogs has saved me from robbery or whatever a couple of times at least. A few of my heighbors have had trouble, thefts, got dogs, no trouble since. You don't need a big killer, a loud yappy little dog works great.

I've heard of people investing a great deal into cameras, and then they forget about "recording devices"

If you have a way to digitize/compress/record/etc. footage that is longer then the length of an average VHS tape then go for it.

I've known people who had their cameras stolen right off their houses.

Night time... most cameras resolution is so poor that to actually make out who a person is... is really difficult.

I myself would prefer a couple mean dogs on my property for safety and a shotgun!!! It's amazing how quickly you can scare off a burglar with a couple shots in the air!

I've only heard of one case where someone stole a dog.... and that was to eat it! (Pali Golf course incident)

We have dogs...so far so good. I heard a funny analogy regarding home security: you and your friend are out in the ocean swimming. Suddenly a hungry shark shows up. To survive you don't have to swim faster than the shark, you just have to swim faster than your friend. Yeah, I know, not much aloha there. But true.

Burglars, like the shark, will go for the easy target because most are inherently lazy. (That's why they're burglars, after all.) If your home is just a little tougher to access than your neighbors, then you're safe, or so the theory goes...

The best solution is the aloha way: getting to know your neighbors and keeping an eye on each others' homes.
