Southwest Airlines resumes growth plans for Hawaii
#11
Any bets about Southwest flying out of Hilo tomorrow?

I don’t know what Southwest has scheduled for tomorrow, but I know someone employed by Southwest who transferred from Kona to Hilo around the first of the year to train the new workers here. The last time I spoke with her (5 days ago?) it sounded like everything was on track. I asked her about Hilo flights to the mainland, but there’s nothing planned at the moment that she knew about.

Southwest may then ne forced to scale back expansion plans, which if it includes Hilo, could adversely affect residents in East Hawaii.

I'm pretty sure Southwest isn't coming to Hawaii to serve the local residents.

Besides which, there are new different problems with the 737MAX:

First Southwest flight from Honolulu to Hilo arrived on time. Four flights total into Hilo today.

Any bets about Southwest flying out of Hilo tomorrow? I read about SouthWest not flying the max plane now until mid June. Was wondering how that effects new scheduled service?
-----------

Won't affect inter-island service at all. The same planes flying in from the mainland, then continue on to inter-island flights, then back over to the mainland.

While waiting for the arrival of the first Southwest jet in Hilo yesterday morning, Harry Kim, the man who has allowed squatters and polluters on Mauna Kea Access Road all Summer, Fall, and now into the Winter, said:

“Forgive the language, but all I can say is ‘what took you so goddamn long?’” joked Mayor Harry Kim before the plane arrived.

A lot of us are asking you the same question Mr. Mayor.

My wife just boarded a SWA flight in Hilo right now to Honolulu. They are making everyone go through Ag for all carry ons since the plane goes on to the mainland. She says it’s a brand new plane, it’s not going to be a full flight.

She says it’s comfortable, clean and not crowded.

Last Wednesday morning she flew on Hawaiian, and Ruderman made a scene announcing he’s a “frequent flyer” to all the other frequent fliers and proceeded to cut in front of everyone in line. So rude and arrogant!

737-800 maximum capacity is 189, this morning’s flight Hilo to Honolulu has 74 passengers. WiFi is available for free to A list preferred, otherwise $8.

Hawaiian has now posted some $78 RT fares between here and HNL on a few scheduled flights in late January and most of February, with others at $88 to $159 RT. Even those more expensive fares are lower than just a few weeks ago.

Southwest Airlines received special treatment from the Federal Aviation Administration in expediting the approval process to begin Hawaii service last year, according to a whistleblower complaint.

Hilarious.
