I need to get a new SoSec card so I can get a red Hawai'i DL to make TSA happy for flight travel.
The Real ID (license with a star) requirements for TSA begin in October 2020.
I renewed my Hawai'i DL last June.
Now you need all your ID for a renewal, just as if you were getting your 1st HDL, birth certificate, SoSec card, and so on.
They now issue a blue or a red colored license.
If you have all the required ID, you will get a red license.
Because HI is so flying prevalent, a red DL will meet TSA's ID requirements for flying and boarding commercial aircraft.
If you're renewing your HDL and you don't have all the ID they now reacquire, you can be issued a blue DL.
It cannot be used as complete ID for flying.
I was told that at DMV in Pahoa by the clerk when I renewed my DL.
I still have the very first SoSec card issued to me at aged 14 in 1957.
It is unreadable because it is so old.
The new Medicare cards no longer use a SoSec number as an ID number.
They told me that if I would get a new readable SoSec card they would issue me a red DL that I could use as complete ID for flying.
