Cheapest trip to Hololulu and back, plus expenses

If you can get a price from a dealer in Oahu and take it to a dealer here who was something comparable and dickers with them. I did this on my last car and end up paying only $650.00 more than Oahu.

Southwest airlines out of Kona ....$39.00 each way. Use "hotels.com" to find a hotel in Honolulu. Use "Discount Hawaii Car rental" for the best rate for a rental on Oahu

Also try hotwire.com for the hotel, choose one of their "hot rate" (anonymous until you pay) hotels. Hotwire tends to beat Priceline these days, but you can check there too.

Spent much of today looking at GSA auctions.
Much to be determined yet.
Gonna watch the next online auction.
See what happens.
I really hate the idea of buying online, sight unseen.
I'd have to go to an auction to make a buy.

Looked up our shipping to Hilo.
It cost us $1100 to ship in 2013 by Pasha.
They now want $1500.

Flight tickets to the mainland will cost much more than Hilo to Honolulu.
Don't really want to do a flight to the mainland, and back.

SW Air inter-island is definitely cheaper, but only out of Kona right now.
Kona is too much of a problem to deal with compared to Hilo.

After my last post, I remembered hostels.
They're available on Oahu starting at $30 for a dorm bed.
Being groped and theft are my greatest concerns.
Maybe I worry too much.
I'm not a baby-faced 20 something any more.

Neither of my FCUs are on Oahu.
I need to find one on Oahu that works with one or both of mine.

Still need to talk to my insurance people.

I need to get a new SoSec card so I can get a red Hawai'i DL to make TSA happy for flight travel.

I'll probably let this lay until next week.
Don't look to be going to go as soon as I'd hoped.

I think if I go to Oahu, I'll spend a week [Mon to Fri] and do a bit of rubber-necking with any extra time.
Since coming here, I haven't done much traveling.
I used to do a lot of it.

You can get west coast roundtrip for <$400 quite often. I've shipped vehicles from Seattle for <$1000 in the past 5 years.

Do Hawaii hostels let locals stay? I'd be surprised, but maybe with a return ticket...

I need to get a new SoSec card so I can get a red Hawai'i DL to make TSA happy for flight travel.

The Real ID (license with a star) requirements for TSA begin in October 2020.

I'm looking for: the cheapest 1 person round trip ticket BI/Oahu [fly or ?, but still time expedient], overnight lodging, car rental, and Shipping to B.I.

Too bad the Hawaii Super Ferry could’ve been the solution to round trip to Oahu, no need for car rental and shipping of newly bought vehicle to Big Island.

the Hawaii Super Ferry could’ve been the solution

Thank you ocean protectors!
Kamehameha may have united the islands 200 years ago when he ferried his troops across the ocean between Hawaii, Maui, & Oahu, but we’ll have no such manner of connecting the islands in the 21st century.

I renewed my Hawai'i DL last June.
Now you need all your ID for a renewal, just as if you were getting your 1st HDL, birth certificate, SoSec card, and so on.
They now issue a blue or a red colored license.

If you have all the required ID, you will get a red license.
Because HI is so flying prevalent, a red DL will meet TSA's ID requirements for flying and boarding commercial aircraft.
If you're renewing your HDL and you don't have all the ID they now reacquire, you can be issued a blue DL.
It cannot be used as complete ID for flying.

I was told that at DMV in Pahoa by the clerk when I renewed my DL.
I still have the very first SoSec card issued to me at aged 14 in 1957.
It is unreadable because it is so old.
The new Medicare cards no longer use a SoSec number as an ID number.
They told me that if I would get a new readable SoSec card they would issue me a red DL that I could use as complete ID for flying.

So much effort on new IDs, and any terrorist can just steal someone else's to book a ticket and board a plane. Or just mail their special "package", since most US mail is sent via passenger flights these days.
