I’ve shipped cars from San Diego to Hilo through Pasha super easy. I’m going to do a price comparison on Toyota trucks and see the difference.

Right now, I would not recommend the DeLuz Big Island Toyota. we had a recall for a full frame replacement, which took over 6 months to get in. When it arrived, the one guy that did them was on vacation. 2 weeks later when we took the truck in, it had engine troubles, so we asked them to check that too.
3 weeks went by with no contact from the dealer. We finally called & were informed that the engine was toast & we would need to replace, we agreed & asked for the pricing, the service lady said there were only 2 estimates, but they would have to work on the price, we asked that she call us back latter that day. 8 days later she calls & leaves a message with the prices, but no other info. In the week that had passed, I had gone on-line & found several rebuilt that were available on the mainland, knew the pricing, the warranties offered & the shipping. We go into the dealership & talk with the service lady, Parts specialist & the assistant manager, agree to have a rebuild engine installed, as this includes a new timing chain & requested that it be sent, ASAP, even though the mainland shop they use had the shortest warranty time of any I found (most had 2-7 years on their work, the dealership uses a shop that only warranties for 1/2 year) They received the warrantied re-built engine 2 weeks later, but it was making strange noises, so they had to contact the rebuild shop on the mainland to see how to proceed. that took a week. (I emailed everyone in management at DeLuz) The BI Service Dept was OKd by the shop to take apart the engine to isolate the noise. that took over a week They determined it was an improper timing chain & order a replacement kit (I am not kidding on this!) that took over a week. (I was not happy by then & emailed everyone at Deluz & the management at Toyota NA) The timing chain kit came in & was missing a gear, so they had to reorder, that took over a week. They got the new kit last Friday & only started working on our truck yesterday (Tuesday), only after after I emailed everyone AGAIN yesterday morning because we were told about the missing gear & need to reorder last Monday & were told that the part should be in on Friday. We had heard nothing of this for over a week. We have an email that our truck MIGHT be ready the beginning of next week, almost 3 months after first taking it in. Needless to say, I would not recommend DeLuz dealerships

Imagine if that were your only vehicle! Did they give you a loaner, considering the recall?

I recently needed a new (to me) car. I went to the dealerships and drove new vehicles, entertaining that idea. They were all very pushy and wanted to waste a lot of my time by offering me deals and financing options, even though I was clear that I wouldn't be purchasing a vehicle that day - only looking. These were all vehicles in the $20k - $40k range. The next day I decided to purchase a used vehicle, and found a great one on Craigslist for $5k. The dealerships continued to call me, and I politely told them I decided to purchase a used car.
I am pleased to hear that a new vehicle can be found on the mainland at a much lower cost.

Wouldn't it be great if Amazon started selling cars and shipping them here? Or maybe one the those companies that sells cars online would start shipping here. I bought a brand new car here in 2017 and must have paid at least 5k more than it would have cost on the mainland.

What I've heard a few times is you go to the local dealerships and test drive the cars and trucks to decide what you want. Then you go online to the Oahu dealerships and order it exactly to your specifications they ship it out and all costs much less than purchasing or ordering from BI. Go figure.
