Dan - why not just post the URL of the story you're talking about? It's simple - copy the URL and paste it into your post. That way people will know what you are talking about.

“I’m not in any way implying that we should renege on any kind of agreement,†said councilman Chung, “but you know, by its own terms, it refers to Hawaii Revised Statutes section 78-27, so that’s the authority for this agreement. When I looked at 78-27, it does provide for interdepartmental agreements, but the employer – which when I look through the definitions that are applicable to this, says that it has to be by the mayors of the counties – I don’t see anything that authorizes the police chiefs to do that.†We have a reimbursement agreement, but it's signed by people who apparently don't have the authority to make that commitment. Everyone lower your expectations some more...

Only "the" Hawaiians have this freedom. The rest of us are constrained by the rules and laws ("for everyone"). Make sure to pay your property taxes! my expectations can't get any lower I had to dig a ditch to set the bar low enough.

"The cost to state and county government agencies to respond to the ongoing Thirty Meter Telescope protest at Mauna Kea now tops $9.9 million, new figures show." That amount would pay tuition for roughly 40% of UH Hilo undergraduates.

It would also pay for five years of UKIRT operations, a telescope that's scientific impact remains in the top five of all telescopes on the planet. This is where there is a huge disconnect between politicians and scientists. The state and county have now spent much more money doing nothing in three months than it costs to make roughly a thousand scientific discoveries over five years.

If only it could pay for a cure for racism and stupidity.
