Puna Bus Hub
#11
So what happened to cause the 3 little buildings and whatever those plans were, to not be completed?

How do we know a "bus hub" wasn't the plan all along?

It’s Ashley’s uncle that owns the proposed hub. Do you think she will recuse herself from any voting or discussion of this appropriation?

That's why it's so important to buy a "bus hub" that's already outfitted with handicapped parking spaces

A bus hub needs handicapped parking spaces? For the people who arrive on one bus to transfer to another one?

How big of a bus hub is needed in Pahoa, we're not exactly the center of anything with only one way out. This is more of an end of the road location. Seems the Malama shopping center or near to the civic center and pool would be better. That said I'm seriously wondering if Ashley's uncle's place wasn't built to be a bus hub way before the idea came to life.

Let me put it this way: I couldn't figure out what the development was for -- the buildings' size and placement, handicapped parking off to the side, gate house...

This project demands at least a traffic study and an enviromental impact report.

built to be a bus hub way before

Hey, we need a bus hub in Pahoa. Any ideas?
What about that place they called The Hub during the lava flow?
Yeah! Right! It already was a hub, so we’re half way there. All we’d need are the buses.

As long as we're building stuff, how about a Ferris wheel at the bus hub to better observe future eruptions? We could fly Mathew Broderick in for the ribbon cutting and everybody gets half price on opening day when they present a bus ticket.

If I'm understanding correctly, the bus hub would be right across the street from the high school. While this may be helpful for some students ( depending on the timing of the trips to various subdivisions ), wouldn't the noise and fumes of busses coming and going all day long create another problem ? Last time I looked, the classrooms that would directly face the hub all had their louvers open - no air conditioning.

Another question: If someone took a feeder bus to the hub, and then wanted to do into 'downtown' Pahoa, they would have to walk along that curved section of road by Paul's Repair/ gas/minimart. There is no sidewalk in that area, but plenty of traffic. And when it rains, people walk on the road to avoid puddles. Is this another accident/lawsuit waiting to happen ?

Plans for the Hub location have varied over the years, including becoming a Cultural Center / Museum for the "throngs of tourists" coming to visit the "world famous" Fissure 8 flow. Remember that Gilbert Aguinaldo, Ashley's uncle, was one of the main people that organized and donated for the Sacred Heart housing during that time so building projects in Pahoa and working with the County is not something new.

Sounds like the County motto!

It's great that Ashley uncle has been so generous with his resources however in a democracy that does not guarantee him lucrative county contracts.
