I think that what you all are engaged in here is called fear mongering.

HMS is what we have. We have to live with it as it exists.

I have heard all kinds of tales and rumors about HMS but my personal experience has been watching HMS save the lives of people I know and care about.

Assume the best and ask questions.

They saved my dads life 7 times. Im not complaining one bit about the incredible, drs, nurses, techs that work there tirelessly cause they care.

The nurse is 110% right about the administration is going to cause many problems.

Wait and see
Aloha

Remember my pregnant daughter who works at Queens in HNL was told she was not allowed to wear a mask.

That has been our experience too with loved ones who were hospitalized due to infections gone awry.

Everyone I know who's stayed at HMS gave a big thumbs up to the care given and wonderful staff.

My own experience of HMC.

Just over a year a year ago I had to call 911 for an ambulance because I was feeling really unwell. This was after fighting an infection that started around Christmas time 2018 after I was bitten by a bug on my ankle.

The ambulance ride wasn't fun but was so ill I didn't care. I was taken straight into the EMS and was diagnosed very quickly with sepsis and sent into the ICU. Six days later I was out of there after experiencing some of the most professional and caring treatment from the HMC medical staff. They saved my life and I am forever grateful for that. I won't hear a bad word against the doctors, nurses and even the people who deliver food and clean the place. All of them were exceptional.

The admin side is very different. They spelled my name wrong (it's not a difficult name to spell) and because of that, there was a delay in administrating the medicine I needed because my name didn't match what was on my insurance. Even after that, the hospital admin couldn't figure out how to correct my name in all the bills I received afterward despite being told several times by them not to worry, they'll fix it.

How all the staff at HMC do their job so well despite the admin they have to put up with makes me respect them even more.

I've had good experiences there with family and friends, which is why I don't want to see those doctors and staff become seriously ill, or have to make terrible decisions on who gets care. It's critical that all staff get some kind of PPE. People encountering patients/intake should wear an N95, even if they wear one all day.

My family and extended family have had MANY babies born there, surgeries, strokes, sepsis, and they saved my daughter's life from MERSA. There hasn't been one complaint from all of us in 32 years. Only once did something happen that I'll always be angry about. I had a serious reaction to an IV antibiotic (levofloxacin) and the two interns that checked out my terrible shoulder and arm pain told me "it must be arthritis". Now I have permanent shoulder and bicep injury because those "doctors" didn't know it could be caused by the drug, and they should have stopped giving it to me. I'll never get over being mad and my arm won't let me! That wasn't the hospital's fault, it was the two "intern" girls and their boss and everyone else sure heard about from me. Bottom line: we all love HMC, they are family to us. I wish I were Oprah and could give them millions of dollars.

We normally have very small needs on rare occasions for medical attention.
Only been to HMC a couple of times that I can remember, to pick up a pair of crutches when M'Lady broke her leg 1 to 2 years a go, and once I can't remember why.

I fully recognize the potential future needs in our situation.
But, maybe for HI it may be suburb, but from my experiences it is quite middle of the road.
It does look to be inadequate for the potential situation and does need to be shored up to be able to handle possible problems.

I'm sure Kim and Ige will see to it, without doubt.

Given that, never forget that hospitals have the reputation that if you want to catch something a hospital is the place to go.
Not providing all the protection possible for the staff is criminal and malfeasance.

Again, Kim and Ige will take care of it.

This time, I can no longer participate in the primary.
