willpahoa, let me ask you a qustion since you seem to have statistics at you fingertips...

How many people in Puna voted in the last election?

It looks like 6808 (or 51.4%) of the registered voters in Representative District 4 cast votes in the General Election, November 2006.

Ok... so according the statistics you have posted 1 in 34 registered voters have participated in Punaweb since June.

That's higher than I would have thought.

6808/195 = Aproximate 34 +

So if we actually take the total amount of members on Punaweb that are actually registered on Punaweb not just lurking...

We get 6808/1505 we get 4 + something...

That's telling me that out of all the 6808 people who voted in puna... 1 in 4 of them could be registered here on Punaweb.

Drop that down to all the unregistered... it could go as 1 in 3.

Interesting statistics....

I didn't realize how much PUNAWEB actually is a large voice in the community.

*edit* My math is terrible so these numbers are probably wrong... Can someone else help me with these computations to make sure I'm not pushing numbers.

Hey Still -

What makes you think I didn't have fun today.

Went to Maku'u Market, the Zoo, lunch at Nori's and shopping with my wife.

Just because I give statistics and an opinion doesn't mean I can't have fun too![Big Grin]

Mr.Willpahoa,I am not into politics, but I am into observation.

Judging by the fact how fast you can come with the numbers on the

topic,my guess would be that you didn't get them from a public

library...
So my observation on PW is that the political candidates or their

representatives used their real names.

But if you are just a "concern sitizen",willpahoa will do.

P.S. Rob Tucker's "assumed the best and then ask a question" is one of my favorite quotes on PW and I try to follow it.
But while reading your original post, the "T-word" crossed my mind more than once. It's not WHAT you said. It's HOW you did it.
For the person just joined the forum a little bit more respect for it's members wouldn't hurt...

To me, the backbone of Punaweb is that is it a mechanism of inclusion, inviting anyone and everyone interested in Puna to participate, voice, think, learn etc.... Isn't that the point here? WE ARE a community, after all, both on the web and off! Not everyone is online regularly, and some not at all but we have certainly opened the doors with our punaweb parties, scuba Sunday beach days in addition to all our online sharing. It is not only the voice of puna here but it is the spirit of puna...

Some might not understand the following joke...

But if you google Voice of Puna with quotation marks... you will find someone that is a real keen observer of Puna... at the top of this list, who does list punaweb on his own blogroll! [:p]

Just teasing Hunter!

We all you know that you just give another opportunity for us to voice off on![Wink]

I slept on this and reflected. Rob is right, of course. Assume the best and ask questions.

So assuming the best - that your heart is in the right place - what was the good intention behind starting this thread?

Can you at least understand why some of us might think, based on the tone of your original post, that the intent was to stir up emotions (=troll) rather than invite a dispassionate political debate?

As far as I'm concerned (not that my opinion matters on this), you're welcome even if you ARE trolling :-)

Aloha and welcome.

To the punaweb voice - you have to add the silent ones who participate through their significant others.

SB & me,

MarkG & pamela?

Who else?? I am sure there are many!

Carey & Jim

Chuysmom & Chuy. [Big Grin]

Pam & Bob

Mella and phantom husband Geno

We may constitute a larger group than is shown by the "number".
