steam vents blocked off
#11
Very interesting James ... thank you for explaining all that ...

Does anyone know about the Steam Vent Mission that took over the Steam Vent Inn?

The home page, www.steamventinn.com is suspended by the Planning Dept. Weird.

But otherwise the site works fine:
http://www.steamventinn.com/natural_steam_spa.html

Honestly, it comes off as a cult.

The current ownership is completely different from the old ('Steam Vent Inn' or, in K's words, "cultish") ownership and management and steamventinn.com is not relevant.

Low key folks there now who take good care of the place and their occasional guests.

Oh no. Say it ain't so. We loved the natural steam baths with the benches people had built. It is such a shame they were bulldozed. A warning sign could have been placed there if safety and liability was the concern. It is so sad that this magical place was destroyed.

And I never got to visit. I feel disappointed. Guess I will turn the hot tub up to stun.

Really, though, there should be a law against destroying a natural feature such as that. I understand that it could be an attractive nuisance, but there has to be a way short of destroying it to address it.

Could be that there is a law.
My intuition is, keep your ears open for some trouble for someone on this.

M'kay...there ought to be a law.
I don't know the details about this nor do I have a clue whether this is covered by anything else under the law, but here's a very good example of why we need to look hard at revising our grading and grubbing ordinance.

Thats what i thought to Mitzi - how did they grade without a permit?

Also on the steam - I dont know much about steam but it seems like it will pop up somewhere else with pressure ? Maybe somewhere unintended?

Hmmm....I promise Puna this: if it pops up in MY yard, I will not doze it. Instead, I will have nice cinder sidewalks leading to it, flowers along the sidewalks, and porta-potties nearby (you must contributed a dollar for maintenance).

In the meantime, my recollection is that there was a sign on STATE LAND pointing to this phenomenon. I just assumed there was an easement of sorts, or that it was on state property. I regret I never had the chance to see it, and experience it, and to get really steamed, especially at its loss.

I don't think it was on State Land, Glen. At least I remember John Rabi looking up the parcel and we were talking about private ownership and liability.

Maybe John will read this and be up for checking the TMK to see who owns the parcel that had the vents.

No, I said the sign was on state land, implying some sort of official sanction of this feature, and that there might be an easement. An easement can be on private property. I don't know that that was the case here as I was ROBBED of the ability to go see for myself. ROBBED! Call the police! I'll wait right here.....cooking dinner over a BBQ (eggplant only -- must remain theoretically kissable) at 225 degrees for ten hours. They should be here by then.
