Steel Building
#11
I like the idea of prefab, but not necessarily of steel. Call me green, but I like the idea of using things that can be regrown and that use as little processing as possible. The last things we need are more polluting and depletion.

Stef, did you see the article today in the Tribune Herals on the prefab bamboo house they just put up on the Hamakua Coast (1st on BI, and the largest too!, it is near Pepe'ekeo), It is quite nice (all bamboo superstructure, the base is wood).

Why not these steel buildings?

I realize that it conducts heat and moisture down the beams, but can't that be compensated and worked on with great ventilation, which is needed anyway?

Look at the resource page also.
There are roof vents and insulation, withstands wind loads, hail, rain, ease of maintence, not to worry about termites, inside can be finished to look like any stick house, same as the outside if wanted.
Can put windows and doors just the same as usual and supposedly costs less than stick home. Especially since it looks like an owner builder could put it together themselves more easily too!

Thank you for all information and replies,
Aloha,
Lucy
