How about your own statement about the the minimum size dwelling to permit?
And,in general,FACTS,please!
Like:
the lender is...(company name will do);
the insurance company(except Lloyd of London,of course) is...;
the insurance premium...;
mls#.. sold in ...months/years.

lostboy, let me know if you don't have your solar system yet. I got mine in Oakland/SFBay & was able to hunt down some great local companies with great prices.

hey hooligal, hey let me know what you can about solar, do they have a web-site? i havent purchased my solar yet.
And I am not looking to finance, my whole goal here is to pay for affordable housing and not have a mortgage, with some land, for growing organic,and room for my critters...
If I dont have a mortgage or electric bills, I dont have to work full time I can work part time and enjoy life.
And if anyone like yurtgirl who knows of good yurt companies, please let me know. my Budget for property a yurt solar and getting moved is around 100,000. AM I JUST WISHFUL THINKING? I hope not...
Yurtgirl it looks like you will be rather useful for some great help, so far the only real negative I am finding is ventilation issues and Moisture but can be solved with insulated liner, wondering if you get condensation from roof?[Big Grin]

Stillhope, Aloha, I have been in contact with you many times and have gone over much of this information with you. Good to virtually see you here raising pertinent questions.

The permitting process on a yurt is rather strict. What we have been instructed by the building department to ensure is that there are 2 doors, 7' walls and 700+ square feet, among the other standard building codes. This is the only way we can ensure that the permit will go through. Having been through this process several times, that is what my recommendation and requirements are in order to help with permitting. We work with licensed architects and engineers in order to ensure that codes are met, my information comes from these professionals as well as the people I have worked with in the building department.

The lender is whoever you can find that will lend, I'm no expert in lending or insurance issues. I can say that many people looking to finance a yurt decide to go with personal loans, which can be paid off more quickly than a larger construction loan or mortgage. Economically, this option is a great one for many people, since they don't pay as much in interest over the long run. (For example, interest on 30k over 5-10 years is going to be much less than interest paid on 100-200k over 30 years). The yurt that sold in Hawaiian Acres that I know of is on roads 10 & C. I don't know the MLS#, the real estate agent was with Century 21. I believe that yurt sold within 4 months of being put on the market.

Lost boy, Ventilation is typically addressed by utilizing the stove kit, which, instead of running a stove pipe through, you simply run a ventilation pipe through. The only time I have witnessed condensation/moisture being an issue in a yurt is if the dome or seams aren't properly sealed.

Aloha~

BTW, I don't think this is wishful thinking at all, you should be able to do that EASILY~
What kind of solar output are you looking for? Any propane?

Aloha,YurtGirl!
If you read your own words again about 800sq ft to be minimum size to be permitted,you will see that it was not RECOMMENDATION.It was a STATEMENT.
When I asked why,you said if I don't believe you,I should ask (name removed) in the building department!
Instead I asked this forum.I am glad I did.
I am giving you the benefit of a doubt,assuming that you "didn't mean that" just to finish this unnecessary conversation.
I wouldn't have even brought it if you hadn't been implying about "a lot of misinformation."
I believe that you can do a good construction on yurt.
I believe that you can find the way to permit it.
I even recommended you on the other forum,because I know that not so long ago 2 yurts has been rejected by the building department as "glorified tents".Didn't you offer the lady to correct it after the fact?(City-data forum.com-Hawaii).
Again,I do believe that you can help otherwise I wouldn't be talking to you.
But being straightforward and honest wouldn't hurt the business.
BTW,John Dirgo asked you a question,which required simple "yes" or "no" ..I haven't seen you answer it.(It is easy to overlook though since you and Lostboytoy use 2 subforums for the same topic)

Stillhope, Please contact (name removed) in the building department. Permitting a yurt is a bit different than permitting a box house. Also, can we change this whole tone that is starting to seep in here? Obviously you are taking a defensive stance, but I am not attacking anyone here, nor do I intend to.

YurtGirl,You Do have a talent of avoiding to answer the main question!!I give up.It's just like talking to the wall,sorry,the lattice.
Everything has been said.
Yurts serve certain purposes,but ...(use the "search" on this forum)
I think someone still interested in building a yurt have enough information to make their own decision.
Good luck to you and all your clients!

It certainly does seem that way! Thank you for calling it as you see it. These "katty" attitudes as you so aptly put it, only serve to stifle real communication. You are more than welcome and thank you, again~
