The idea of lawns bothered me after I became aware that they were a European(?) fixation. I guess what annoyed me was how much a grass lawn has become the defacto basis of the American yard. Very few people seem to consider other options. About the only good thing I've heard about a grass lawn is that it can keep other weeds moderated while one plans to plant other things. Most of our half acre lot has a grass lawn. Even this small amount requires too much maintenance! Of course, considering the growing potential of the area, what doesn't require upkeep!? I'm planning to reforest our little plot.
