Flying Cats
#11
I gotta’ tell ya’ we flew with 2 cats in April from NJ to the BI…. in cargo. NO problamo.
Both cats are over 15 and one in not so good health. NJ to HNL 10 ½ hours the plane got in after the airport quarantine was closed so they stayed the night. We picked them up at 0800 and flew to Hilo.
Spent 2 weeks in a rental house and then moved to our home in Hawaiian Beaches.
Oh, I forgot one of the cats needs medication and when we got to HNL we were able to visit and administer the stuff. Don’t panic if they have to fly in cargo, it’s safe and they are animals they will adapt. Good Luck.

If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it cost when it’s free...now here come the taxes.....

Hi KahunaScott - It's my son more than me. My only concern would be the one with the heart murmur, but he's been in a few quite stressful situations and is fine. And technically could go on Hawaiian Air in passenger as a service animal for my son - I've heard very good things about Hawaiian Air's treatment of pets in baggage, which is my airline of choice anyway. Just spoke to two more people at ATA and they do allow pets in passenger. They no longer allow pets in cargo. They have a max amount of 5 pets per flight - thanks Les, it took me a while, but I finally got it lol - so if we book online, we need to call first and check on how many openings there are on a particular flight first and then book right away. I thought their one way fares really were good, but like the other airlines, they are of course based on RT - so again, from the West Coast, Hawaiian Air or booking through Hotwire.com is more appealing to me. I'll talk to my son again about the issues with them in passenger
(tucked under seat and probably yowling half the way) vs being in larger carrier and talk to his counselor about Simba the Service Cat.
[sigh]

At least we know we have options.

Mahalo!
Cindy
